Prayer

Currently delving into the whole subject of prayer on a personal level and finally decided to blog a bit on it. WF once said that your prayer life is directly correlated to the condition of your spiritual walk... and that hit me like a ton of bricks. Back in my undergrad days, I had great opportunities to practice corporate prayer on a regular basis with my roommates - our "house meetings" were more like current CAT accountability meetings, lots of sharing and praying for each other. And should a situation come up that needed immediate prayer, we'd get down on our knees right then and there and talk to God together about it. And even with the several short-term trips, it was great to have the habit of going immediately to God at the moment together with fellow brothers and sisters (I think there's something to be said about praying together corporately). Anyways, its definately a way to exercise daily dependency on God... something I need to get back to...

Then there's the issue of personal prayer and quiet times. Which also involves being still before God and waiting on Him. I struggle with that too - because with those times I am most keenly aware of my independent spirit and how Satan tries to disrupt my thoughts during these times. What does it mean to be still before God in pure worship before Him? What does it mean to pray continuously? I think alot of times, when I'm fighting to be prayerful minded throughout the day (yes, its a fight), I'm really fighting my own willful spirit. Some things are hard to die (again and again). =P

Currently going through Richard Foster's book on prayer (he's the author of Celebration of Discipline). Learning to not only enrich my quiet times, but enriching my relationship with God every moment of the day.
