The hope in dying to the self

I think one the hardest parts of the Christian life is letting go of your own will (alongside decifering God's will and trusting God as other equally difficult parts). And Foster discusses it in length through what he calls the "Prayer of Relinquishment"... which is a prayer of letting go and releasing what we selfishly want, for the sake of what God wants/wills. But Foster goes on to encourage his readers:

Please remember, we are dealing with the crucifixion of the will, not the obliteration of the will. Crucifixion always has resurrection tied to it. God is not destroying the will but transforming it so that over a process of time and experience we can freely will what God wills.
