Our trip down south went pretty well. We drove down to LA / Orange County on Thursday, and spent majority of Thursday evening exploring the UCLA campus (accompanied by random outbursts from Wayne: "Hey, there's where I used to hang out!!" or "That's where Thomas lived!" or "That's where Barbara used to live!" or "Wow, this looks exactly the same" or "Wow, this looks totally different!") Wayne was really excited about reminiscing his old undergrad days. Friday we met up with Veronica in Brea, spent some time in Irvine, and then met up with Edwin, Gene, and Cindy for dinner over some tasty ribs (eating with those guys always turns out to be an expensive ordeal... hehe). Saturday was an all day (12 hours) affair at Disneyland, where we nearly walked our legs off, and ended our day at Rainforest Cafe for dinner, and then really cool Disneyland fireworks at night. On Sunday, we visited Will Mok's church (turns out that he goes to the same church as Caleb, what a small world). Later that evening we met up with Caleb and Kuni for dinner in downtown SD. Monday, we checked out of our hotel and drove around Fountain Valley. I used to live there, so we drove by my old school and my old house. Everything looks so familiar, yet everything is different. I felt so weird afterwards. Made me think about how life was like when I was living there with my family (I was 5 years old when we moved there from Oregon), and it got me thinking about my parents via an adult perspective. I know my parents tried really hard, and they did their best. I'm not sure what went wrong in the meantime, but whatever it was, despite that I'm still thankful for the sacrifices my parents made for me. It's still difficult sometimes to think about my parents... in private I sometimes shed tears on it, but alot of times I try not to dwell too much on it. At least not around others who are uncomfortable by the whole thing. And I start thinking about what it'll be like once Wayne and I start our own family, and it would sure be nice to have my mom around and their support with all of that... and I start wondering if they will ever come around...(the way things are going now.. probably not)? Wayne keeps reminding me not to doubt God, but leave it up to Him to take care of things we have no control over.... which is so hard to do sometimes. Just gotta buck up and face life head-on, with an armful of faith, and ton of grace. =)
